Josephine Sere is a visual artist restaging interwar Surrealist concepts on a face held to a late 1920s to mid 1930s standard.
She began her ascent into material beauty history in November 2025 when she wore her first vintage lipstick as an affront to modern red lipstick emphasizing the wrong part of her features.
Josephine Sere has an affinity for historical reconstruction and the material culture of pre-1939, not forgetting her roots in her collection of 1930s to 1960s wearable vintage lipsticks.
She believes surrealism and beauty coexists in a double plane of mind and physicality without being stuffy and antiquated.
Sere’s Aura
The Sere Identity is the visual manifestation of historical portraiture that exists within the continuum of pre-war Surrealism.
Josephine Sere prefers to source directly from cultural footprints of the reigning era than reproductions, when suitable.
For example, she wears antique extrait dabbers but will substitute them for vintage and modern fragrances to preserve the original liquid & scent.
Sere only wears antique to vintage lipsticks, never reproductions.
